Slack key guitar is a fingerpicking style which has been kept well hidden by its most notable exponents. Finding books, records or tutorials on slack key guitar playing is a series of dead ends where recording studios and music publishers have stopped recording and publishing and guitar players who specialize in slack key playing prefer to play for family gatherings rather than look for ways of spreading the word about their art. We often associate the guitar and the ukulele with Hawaii but ...

Beck kicked off his seven-week North American tour at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada. The show opened with "Devil's Haircut" and continued on a 23-song set that weaved tracks like "Chemtrails" and "Gamma Ray" from his most recent album, the Danger Mouse-produced Modern Guilt, in with old favorites like "Loser," the song perhaps most responsible for introducing the world to the quirky singer and his Beat-like poetry ("In the time of chimpanzees, I was a monkey/Butane in my ...

Just the mention of the words interior design can strike fear into people wanting to redecorate their own home. The phrase interior design tends to bring to mind images of perfectly design themes which have to be created in a certain way. Not to mention the cost of such an undertaking. Interior design in reality does not have to be a daunting task.
A simple and easy way to do interior design styles is to base your theme on a period in time. You simply re-create styles from an era from the past ...

Lindsay Lohan today is retching her guts out and cleaning toilets at the Cirque Lodge Rehabilitation Center in Orem, Utah. Having chased and caught the American Dream of fame, fortune, movie and music stardom Lindsay was left with a painful empty feeling which she chose to eliminate with the cheap thrills of booze and cocaine.

If there was ever two words that incite more speculation and innuendo than any others, the words would have to be Michael Jackson. After a self-imposed exile in the middle-eastern country of Bahrain (where he was almost jailed for importing excessive amounts of painkillers) Jackson has reportedly returned to Las Vegas just in time to see former possessions, seized from his Neverland Estate, put up on the auction block. While a ...

CANOODLING WITH A CANUCK IN A CANOE?
--Or, Welcome to Climax, Saskatchewan!
Canada is a pretty straight-laced, peaceful place, where seldom
is heard a discouraging word and the skies are not cloudy all
day, except for eleven and a half months of the year
affectionately called "winter", (when everyone goes inside for a
break from the bugs, barking dogs, or far too many exposed
bosoms and buttocks -- euphemistically referred to as "bare
essentials").
So, one ...

It's funny the kinds of things that you remember sometimes. Just
a little while ago I began smiling because I was thinking about
something my mother told me many years ago. I was a teenager at
the time, and I think that I was dating several girls instead of
just dating my steady girlfriend. My mother, for some
inexplicable reason, was not too crazy about that, so she gave
me a lecture about how I was going to lose her. She went on and
on and on about it, and I finally grumbled back some sort ...

Within the last six weeks, that gusty quartet comprised of
Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne has lustily serenaded Florida.
A repeat performance is not in the foreseeable forecast - I hope.
It is not that I do not appreciate good music; it is because I
do appreciate good music that I do not wish for a comeback of
this quartet. The problem this quartet had, which many musical
groups have, is they usually try to drown out the other ones in
the group.
The damage in life and property during these ...

Who You Calling A Hick? By David Leonhardt
For the last time, I live in the country, not in the sticks. And
I am relaxed, not a hick.
Ever since we moved to the country, I get the feeling you
city-folk are confused. So here is a primer on what it means to
be living in the country.
When you walk three blocks from your house in the city, you will
be in another neighborhood...and possibly lost. We'll be
approaching our next-door neighbor's front porch.
The neighbors are no trouble at all. Sure ...

Now then, the wonders of quagmires are a treat I have never
encountered. I had the uncanny ability, as a youth, to attend
Europe's premier music festival twice, and both times I stumbled
upon a West Country heat wave.
Yes, it's true; yours truly enjoyed the warmth of the sun and
the cider tent on both occasions whilst at Glastonbury.
For the purpose of what I have to say here, I am going to
concentrate on just the one specific event that happened whilst
I was there. I was in my early 20s, it ...

THE SETTING Luke 15:11 "There was a man who had two sons.
Far away, long before children had beds, There lived a Tasmanian
'Devil' named "Fred" Prince Frederick the Fifth, Son of
Frederick the Fourth Who ruled the Tasmanian Kingdom, of course.
King Frederick was noble and goodly and nice The Tasmanians
loved him- from mooses to mice They also loved King Freddy's
nicely son "Ned" But oh how they hated that nasty Prince Fred.

It's 4.41 a.m. and I am listening to the birds singing in the
nearby park. Few people hearing the Dawn Chorus could guess at
how highly organised and politically motivated birds have become
over the past few years. . .
It all started with a campaign by owls to secure extended rights
for night workers, including enhanced rates of pay, regular meal
breaks and assurances that they would not be penalized for
refusing to work overtime. Some employers tried to get owls in
trouble in certain parts of ...

IT'S STILL A 'JUNGLE' OUT THERE ... Or How US Beef-Industry
Feeding Practices Are a Source of Concern
If you think about farmers raising cattle, you probably conjure
up something like this happy cow scene: Mellow heifers quietly
grazing on the lush grass of the rolling countryside, lazily
swishing their tails at pesky bugs. New-born and young calves
getting nourishment from the milk in their mothers' teats. For
us here at Grinning Planet, such images make us reminisce about
our days in the Mu ...

Prom is supposed to be the best night in the entire high school experience. In the Houston area, proms are usually held at nice hotels or banquet halls as opposed to cheaply decorated high school gymnasiums. Things have changed since thirty years ago. One of the biggest areas of change would be prom music, which is why high schools should hire a
DJ in Houston for their proms.
The first reason to hire a disc jockey for this once in a lifetime event for students is because of the many different ...
